Reflection.

Reflecting on the possibility of becoming an adjunct instructor in a counseling program, I’m struck by how much this path resonates with both my personal and professional values. Hansen’s Integrative Life Planning (ILP) framework offers a powerful lens to consider how this role aligns with my desire to contribute meaningfully to the field of counseling while fostering my own growth and balance.

At its core, teaching feels like a natural extension of my work as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and school counselor. Over the years, I’ve discovered a deep satisfaction in guiding others—whether that’s helping clients untangle emotional struggles or mentoring colleagues as they navigate professional challenges. The idea of working with counseling students taps into that same energy. It’s exciting to think about being part of their journey, helping them develop the skills and mindset they’ll need to support others in meaningful ways.

From an ILP perspective, this role offers a beautiful way to integrate the personal and the professional. Hansen’s emphasis on addressing societal needs aligns with my passion for promoting diversity, inclusion, and mental health awareness—values that are foundational to the counseling profession and central to who I am. Teaching would allow me to bring those values into the classroom, creating a space where students feel seen, respected, and inspired to think critically about their roles in addressing la

On a more personal note, I love the idea of using my experiences to spark curiosity and connection in others. There’s something so rewarding about sharing what I’ve learned—both the victories and the “well, that didn’t go as planned” moments—and seeing those lessons take on new life in someone else’s hands. My research interests, like the intersection of giftedness and mental health, could add another layer to this work, inviting students to explore areas they might not have previously considered.

I also see teaching as an opportunity for growth—not just for students, but for me as well. ILP emphasizes wellness and self-renewal, and I can’t think of a better way to stay energized and engaged in my own career than by surrounding myself with the fresh perspectives and energy of future counselors. Plus, it’s a chance to step back from the day-to-day demands of counseling and reflect on the bigger picture of why this work matters.

Ultimately, the idea of being an adjunct instructor feels deeply fulfilling. It’s a role where I could contribute to the development of others while continuing to explore my own passions and purpose. And if I could do all that while bringing a bit of lightheartedness, encouragement, and empathy into the classroom? That’s the kind of future I’d love to be a part of.It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
